WHAT IS MODESTO ON ICE?
For more than a decade, Modesto On Ice has brought the magic of outdoor ice skating to the heart of downtown Modesto. Open each year from mid-November through mid-January, our tent-covered rink offers an unforgettable winter experience for skaters of all ages. Locally owned and operated by the Halsey family, Modesto On Ice has become a cherished holiday tradition, made possible by the incredible support of our community.
WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?
We’ll be open every day from Saturday, November 21, 2026 through Monday, January 18, 2027, including holidays! Hours vary based on holidays, school breaks, weather, and private events. The easiest way to view available skating sessions is through our online ticket system.
ARE YOU OPEN WHEN IT RAINS?
Yes! Our rink, Party Tent, and Snack Shack are all tent-covered, keeping you dry while you skate. You might get a few raindrops on your way in, but the fun continues—rain or shine!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS HEAVY RAIN OR SEVERE WEATHER?
Our rink, Party Tent, and Snack Shack are fully covered, so we're able to operate in most weather conditions, including rain. In the event of severe weather or other conditions that make skating unsafe, we may delay, suspend, or cancel skating sessions. Any updates will be posted on our website and social media channels as soon as they become available.
WHAT'S NEARBY?
Make a day of your visit! Downtown Modesto offers a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, entertainment, and family attractions. Be sure to check out the Modesto Children's Museum, catch a movie at the Brenden or State Theatre, or explore everything downtown has to offer. Tickets & Admission
HOW DO I GET TICKETS?
Tickets are available online at Tickets.ModestoOnIce.com or at our Ticket Booth, subject to availability. Online ticket sales close 30 minutes before each session. After that, any remaining tickets may be purchased at the Ticket Booth. We recommend purchasing in advance, especially on weekends and during school breaks, when sessions often sell out.
HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?
Each skating session lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes and includes skate rental.
Ages 3–12: $15
Ages 13+: $19
DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?
Yes! We have several ways to save:
Group Discount: 10% off when purchasing 15+ tickets in one order.
Family Four Pack: 2 adult + 2 child tickets for $58 (save $10).
Military Discount: $2 off for active-duty and veteran skaters.
Bring Your Own Skates: Save $3.
Season Passes: Save big with our 10-Pack or Season Pass.
Kids' Days: Select days throughout the season where kids (3–12) skate at half price.
DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?
Yes, every skater must have a signed waiver. Adults (18+) must complete their own waiver, and anyone under 18 must be added as a minor on a parent or legal guardian's waiver.
Once completed online, you'll receive a Modesto On Ice waiver confirmation with a barcode. Simply present the barcode at check-in so we can quickly locate your waiver in our system.
If you arrive without a completed waiver, you'll be asked to complete the online waiver before we can process your check-in. To help your visit get off to a smooth start, we recommend completing your waiver before you arrive.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I'M LATE FOR MY SKATING SESSION?
You're welcome to join your skating session after it has started. However, sessions end at their scheduled time, and we aren't able to extend your skating time or issue refunds for late arrivals. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before your session to allow time for parking, check-in, skate fitting, and getting ready to hit the ice.
CAN I LEAVE AND COME BACK DURING MY SKATING SESSION?
Yes. You're welcome to leave the rink area and return during your scheduled skating session. Just be sure to keep your wristband on, as it serves as your admission for re-entry.
DO I HAVE TO PAY IF I'M NOT SKATING?
Spectators are always welcome free of charge. Relax with a warm drink or snack from our Snack Shack while you watch the fun.
WHAT'S YOUR REFUND POLICY?
All sales are final. Requests to reschedule tickets, lessons, or party reservations may be considered prior to your scheduled date at management's discretion and are subject to availability.

WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SKATE?
We offer group skating lessons, but they fill quickly—so be sure to register early! Private lessons are also available through Adrienne Anderson.

DO YOU HAVE SKATE HELPERS?
Walkers are available to rent for $5 per skating session at the beginning of each session from the Ticket Booth on a first-come, first-served basis. If you think you'll need one, we recommend arriving early, as only 35 Walkers are available each session.
CAN I BRING MY OWN SKATES?
Absolutely! You're welcome to bring your own ice skates. Skaters using their own skates receive a $3 discount on admission. Please make sure your skates are in good condition and have been sharpened recently for the best skating experience.
WHAT SKATE SIZES DO YOU OFFER?
We have both figure and hockey skates ranging from Youth 8 to Men's 16. Quantities in the smallest and largest sizes are limited, and availability of some sizes may be limited during busy sessions.
DO YOU SHARPEN SKATES?
Yes! We offer skate sharpening for $5. Fun fact: Our skate sharpener once belonged to the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU RESURFACE THE ICE?
Every 90 minutes we use the 10 minutes between sessions to resurface the ice with our Zamboni, creating a smooth sheet of ice for everyone to enjoy.
Rules & Safety
ARE THERE AGE RESTRICTIONS?
Skaters must be at least 3 years old.
CAN I GO ON THE ICE IN REGULAR SHOES?
No. For everyone's safety, the ice surface is reserved for paid skaters only. All skaters must be wearing ice skates and have a completed waiver on file before entering the ice.
CAN I CARRY MY CHILD WHILE SKATING?
No. For everyone's safety, carrying a child while skating is not permitted. If you or your child loses balance, it can increase the risk of injury to both of you.
CAN I WALK TO MY CAR ON SKATES?
Please keep skates on the ice or our rubber walkways only. Walking on concrete or asphalt can damage the blades, and you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs. If you need to step away, our Skate Shed attendant will gladly hold your skates for you.
CAN WHEELCHAIRS GO ON THE ICE?
Absolutely! Skaters using wheelchairs are welcome at all public sessions. We recommend visiting on less crowded days and ask that younger guests or anyone needing assistance be accompanied by an adult. Let us know at check-in so we can help make your visit comfortable.
ARE SERVICE ANIMALS ALLOWED?
Yes. Service animals are welcome in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). For the safety of the animal and our guests, service animals are not permitted on the ice surface.
CAN I TAKE PHOTOS, VIDEOS, OR LIVE STREAM AT THE ICE RINK?
Absolutely! You're welcome to take photos and short videos of your own group during your visit. We simply ask that you be respectful of other guests' privacy.
To help protect the privacy and safety of all our guests—especially children and families—live streaming is not permitted at Modesto On Ice. Thank you for helping us provide a fun, comfortable, and family-friendly environment for everyone.
Planning Your Visit
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE?
We recommend arriving 30 minutes before your scheduled skating session. This gives you plenty of time to park, complete your waiver (if needed), check in, get fitted for skates, and be ready to hit the ice when your session begins.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We recommend dressing in layers, as you'll warm up while skating. Gloves or mittens are also recommended to keep your hands warm and protected.
Socks are required with all rental skates. Thin or medium-weight socks that reach at least mid-calf provide the best fit. Forgot yours? Socks are available at the Ticket Booth for $3.50.
DO YOU SELL SOCKS AND GLOVES?
Yes! Socks are available for purchase at the Ticket Booth for $3.50 if you forget to bring a pair. We also offer gloves for purchase while supplies last.
WHERE CAN I PARK?
The City parking lot adjacent to the rink offers convenient paid parking. A City parking garage is also located directly across the street. Please visit the City of Modesto Parking Services website for current rates and information.
WHERE CAN I STORE MY BELONGINGS?
We provide free, unlocked lockers for guests. Bring a padlock if you'd like to secure your items. Please note that Modesto On Ice is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
DO YOU HAVE RESTROOMS?
Yes. We have restrooms and an ADA-accessible unit located on the northeast side of the rink.
Food & Amenities
CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD AND DRINKS?
Outside food and beverages are not permitted. The only exception is dessert for parties booked in our Party Tent. Our Snack Shack offers a variety of delicious food, snacks, and hot and cold beverages to enjoy during your visit.
WHAT'S ON THE SNACK SHACK MENU?
Whether you're craving a snack or something warm to drink, our Snack Shack has you covered! Enjoy loaded hot chocolate, cider, coffee, tea, nachos, hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, chips, candy, Cup O'Noodles, and even make-your-own S'mores around our cozy fire pits.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?
We accept cash, credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. A 3% convenience fee applies to all non-cash payments. (No checks, please!)
DO YOU SELL GIFT CERTIFICATES?
Yes! Gift certificates for skating sessions make great holiday gifts and can be purchased at our Ticket Booth during business hours.
Parties and Private Events
CAN I CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY AT MODESTO ON ICE?
Absolutely! Modesto On Ice is a great place to celebrate birthdays. We offer reserved Party Tent packages for groups of various sizes, complete with skating, a dedicated party space, and optional food and beverage add-ons. CAN I RESERVE THE RINK FOR A PRIVATE EVENT?
Yes! Private ice rentals are available during select hours. Your event includes exclusive use of the rink for 90 minutes, skate rentals for up to 160 guests, free use of Walkers, and a Cocoa Coupon for each guest (redeemable for hot chocolate, coffee, or soda). Pizza may also be added for $20 per pizza.
